The Sarvodaya Movement seeks to establish
sustainable living among the communities around the world, and
to meet the immediate needs of people. It is one of the most successful
self-help organizations in the world. Its concepts of rural development
links with Buddhist principles. Sarvodaya Movement was founded
in 1958 by Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne , who was then a school teacher.
Today it involves close to 100,000 volunteers and 500 employees
in more than 10,000 local branches and five independent overseas
units.
Instead of focusing on a community's
needs, deficiencies and problems, asset-based community development
helps them become stronger and more self-reliant by discovering,
mapping and mobilizing all their local assets. Some of these assets
include the skills of it's citizens, the dedication of its citizen
associations, and the resources of its formal institutions.

ENO-Environment Online is a global
web school for environmental awareness. Four environmental themes
( dimensions of sustainable development ) are studied within a
school year ( Social, Natural, Cultural Environment and a sustainable
way of living ) on a weekly basis. This multi-awarded website
contains comprehensive information on organization and class activities
and curriculum. The ENO organization is partnered and supported
by various entities; some of which include the University of Joensuu
in Finland, UNICEF, UNEP, Hewlett Packard (HP), and former U.S.
vice president Al Gore.
